Design
Constructed on 324sqm land, this project lies to a singular main problem, a periodic flood. Located on East-Northern Jakarta, which has a quite problem with a flood that can arise about 1.00 meter high above the ground. In this case, a singular monolith volume was build upon to solve the flooding problem which also serves as an expression of a singular block to dam up the upcoming flood.
Our decision to design a singular box as a facade serves also as a wall and barrier to ease the blockade of the flood. This concept, in reverse, also eases us to manage and compose each of the rooms inside this house to be more efficient. A large living room is designed to accommodate all activities within this house, located in the middle story. A void, which in this elongated site serves as a cross-ventilation outlet from the air at the front side of the house, enabling the air to breeze through the living room for each story. This cross ventilation idea is accompanied by the overall mass of this building, a single monolithic concrete, which we designed overstacked so it gives each shade to accommodate the space underneath.
